This is something so many of us struggle with on a daily basis, including me. In my last post, I said I refused to step on that evil scale because I didn't want to feel bad about myself. Well, I cracked and stepped on the scale. Turns out, I am harsher on myself then I thought the scale would be. I thought I was 210 LBS, but the scale told me I was only 184.6 LBS.
Someone close to me recently stepped on a scale and was shocked when she didn't see "ERROR" displayed on the screen, but saw 296.4 LBS instead. She thought she was 330 LBS-350 LBS.
It just shows how common Body Image Distortion really is. It affects both men and women of all ages.
We are CONSTANTLY putting ourselves down when we should be bringing ourselves up!
We have the power to kick those negative thoughts out of our minds.
Imagine those negative thoughts as roommates you are renting a room to. It's your name on the lease, not theirs. Would you allow that person to continue to reside in your home, or would you kick them to the curb and find a better, more positive roommate? My guess is that you would give them the boot, am I right? So, why keep the negative thoughts? Replace those negative thoughts with positive affirmations. They could be anything! "I am beautiful", "I am smart", "I am an amazing parent", I am strong", or you could even get creative and tell yourself "I am AMAZEBALLS". We can replace most of our negative thoughts with daily positive affirmations. I admit, I still talk down to myself, but I like to think I have yet to find that perfect "roommate".

WHAT IS BODY IMAGE DISTORTION?
Body image distortion is a brain condition where a person is unable to see himself or herself accurately in the mirror and perceives features and body size as distorted. In some cases, it affects physical touch.
A person may touch their arms or stomach and feel as though it is several times larger then it really is.
So, the question is, are we really as big as we think we are?
It is so important to treat our bodies well, and it is also important to treat our minds and spirits well.
We need to be balanced in all aspects of our lifes.

Some of us may be lacking more in one of these areas, so it's a good idea to find a way to balance these out. SELF-CARE is everything.
Physical: Go for a walk.

SLEEP!
Mental: Meditation.

Journal your thoughts.
Find something to laugh about.
